The President in the Medway Area
The President of the Dickens Fellowship, and the great, great, great granddaughter of Charles Dickens, Lucinda Dickens Hawksley visited the Medway area on Friday 15th along with Philip Dodd. First visiting Rochester for several engagements, including signings of Lucinda's latest book Victorian Christmas, with member Sue Haydock. Sue kindly gave the distinguished visitors a lift to The Leather Bottle where Lucinda and Phil lunched. Steve Martin met them at the Leather Bottle and, after talking and diversion to the village of Chalk gave them an impromptu guided Dickens tour, drove them to Gad's Hill Place. They were met at Gad's by member and Gad's Hill Place tours organiser Claire Hitchcock and whilst there recorded, in the Billiard Room and Study, for a podcast. Further recordings are expected prior to the episode of We Did It Medway, podcast series two being launched sometime after Christmas. Each series is planned to include a Dickens related episode. Details of the first series Dickens episode are shown below.
