Branches and Affiliated Societies of the Dickens Fellowship

Branch and Affiliated Society Structure
  • Branches and Affiliated Societies are autonomous bodies which have independent programmes and  membership arrangements.
  • The network of branches and affiliated societies is co-ordinated by the Central Fellowship in London
  • Branches are an integral part of the Fellowship. They are self-supporting, elect their own officers and dispose of their own funds.
  • Affiliated Societies pay a reduced affiliation fee and their members have no voting rights or other Fellowship benefits.
  • Branch administrators can add local events, or alternatively can send details to Calendar and News
How to Form a Branch or Affiliated Society
  • A new branch or affiliated society of the Dickens Fellowship can be formed with the agreement of the AGM or Council, who meet annually. 
  • A new branch or affiliated society needs to show some evidence of :-
    • Viability – number of members (this can be around 10-15 to start with).
    • Details of activities already undertaken (meetings, talks, social events).
    • Location of meetings.
    • Information about the subs charged (if any) to members.
  • Once chartered, branches are required to pay annual subs of £30.  Branch members are entitled to a reduced subscription rate to The Dickensian, the journal of the Fellowship, to attend the annual conference, to vote at the AGM and at Council, and to free entry to the Charles Dickens Museum in Doughty Street, London on production of their branch membership card.
  • Once chartered, affiliated societies pay annual subs of £15 and their members don't receive the voting or benefit rights of branches.

Dickens by Candlelight - A Christmas Carol

A return of the successful production of the Carol performed in the former dining room and bar salon of the former "Queens Head Hotel" where CD stayed, each performance is restricted to 38 persons, and performed throughout the run up to Christmas.
