DF contribute to the restoration of the monument to Sir Thomas Noon Talfourd

The DF is happy to have contributed to the restoration of the monument to Sir Thomas Noon Talfourd in West Norwood Cemetery, south London. Dickens attended the funeral of his friend in March 1854.

Talfourd was a barrister, judge, Member of Parliament and playwright. He introduced a copyright Bill into Parliament which became law in 1842. The Pickwick Papers was dedicated to him in 1837. Their friendship lasted until Talfourd's death. In the edition of Household Words for 25 March 1854 Dickens paid tribute to 'the conscientious judge, the charming writer and accomplished speaker, the gentle-hearted, guileless and affectionate man.’
