GENOVA CON GLI OCCHI DI DICKENS (Genoa through the eyes of Dickens)
On Wednesday 13th December there will be the launch of a new book examining Dickens’s time and experience as a resident of Genoa in 1844. This will take place at the Salone di Rappresentanza in the city at 17.00. Congratulations to the joint authors (and Fellowship members) Marco Cazzulo and Matteo Frulio.

Alliance of Literary Societies 50th Anniversary Christmas Cracker
ALS 50th ANNIVERSARY CHRISTMAS CRACKER Thursday, 14 December at 7.30 p.m. via Zoom
‘“Yo ho, my boys!” said Fezziwig. “No more work tonight. Christmas Eve, Dick. Christmas, Ebenezer”…In came a fiddler with a music-book, and went up to the lofty desk, and made an orchestra of it, and tuned like fifty stomach-aches. In came Mrs. Fezziwig, one vast substantial smile. In came the three Miss Fezziwigs, beaming and lovable. In came the six young followers whose hearts they broke…There were more dances, and there were forfeits, and more dances, and there was cake, and there was negus, and there was a great piece of Cold Roast, and there was a great piece of Cold Boiled, and there were mince-pies, and plenty of beer.’ (Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol)
We can’t, sadly, recreate the Fezziwig’s Ball via Zoom, but we can get together to celebrate the season and raise a glass of festive cheer together. Bring along your negus or beer; Cold Roast or Cold Boiled if you wish… If you wish, please consider which character from fiction you would most like to invite to your Christmas lunch and be prepared to tell us why.
